Team Lists: IRL Round 1 2017 v Swifts

This week’s team list is brought to you by Blue Dog Training and Fallu & McMillan solicitors.

Footy is back baby!

The Ipswich Rugby League season kicks off Saturday with all A-Grade matches taking place at the North Ipswich Reserve.

This year’s competition sees the Eastern Cobras field an A-Grade side for the first time, taking the number of teams in the A-Grade competition to 7.

Norths will take on Swifts in both A-Grade and Reserve Grade this week, with our Under 19s having a bye and the Second Division competition not starting until after Easter.

A-Grade will play on Saturday afternoon at 4.15pm, while our Reserve Grade side will do battle at home on Sunday, with kickoff at 3pm.

Norths will welcome back Chris Scanlan and Chris Porter for 2017 after both had a year off last year. These two veterans are welcome additions this week in a side that is missing Josh Roberts (baseball), Matt & Kane Fairhurst (cricket), Gerrico Cecil and Kane Fuller (injury).

I was saddened to learn earlier in the week that two teammates I had since Under 18s in Tim “Moose” Newton and Jacob “Chooky” Stephan have hung up the boots this year. I can fully understand Chook giving it away in order to spend time with his beautiful young family, however I am surprised by Moose’s decision given really what else does he have in his life outside of the mighty Norths Tigers? Anyway, here’s hoping we see Moosey back in Tigers colours in the future.

After cheering on A-Grade at the Reserve on Saturday afternoon be sure to head down to the Leagues club afterwards as the Season Launch will be taking place from 7pm. All sponsors, supporters and players are welcome to come and enjoy the night!

Glory, glory to the tigers!

A lackluster interchange forward who was part of the victorious Norths Tigers 2014 IRL A-Grade premiership team. Illustrious achievements include "Most Versatile Player Award" in Under 18s and was once named "player's player".
