Ritchie’s Rant : Norths Update : Finals Week 1

Hello,

After a long regular season we have reached the pointy end of Season 2013. A huge congratulations to all of our players and staff on getting all four of our teams through to the finals. Only Norths and Goodna have managed to get all their sides qualified this season in what has been a tight contest in just about every grade. A massive congratulations need to go to Mick, Doylie, Brett and our Under 18s who have taken out the 2013 Minor Premiership.

Last Saturday saw Norths Leagues Club hosting a fundraiser for young Tiger, Toby Wedrat. Although the weather closed in late the day was a great success and helped raise valuable funds to help cover Toby’s medical expenses. Thanks to all those who turned out in support of Toby. A special thanks to our senior players who attended the day and dug deep into their own pockets. The boys whipped the hat around and then donated another $100 from their trip away fundraising to help Toby Out. That’s the kind of club spirit Norths are all about.

Saturday night also saw the annual IRL awards dinner at the North Ipswich Conference Centre. Mick Newton accepted the Under 18s Minor Premiership on behalf of his team while Daniel Sykes received the award for top point scorer in Open 2s. North’s biggest honour of the night went to Mick Newton as he was awarded the IRL Coach Of The Year for his work with our Under 18s this season. The award is not only recognition of Mick’s work but a reflection of the great team spirit shown by our Under 18 squad and staff this season. Well done.

This weekend sees our A and Reserve Grade sides contesting knock-out semifinals on Saturday evening against Goodna and Swifts respectively. While we are now walking the razor’s edge the boys have trained well this week and are all going into these clashes confident of taking out the win. Meanwhile Sunday our C Grade and Under 18s will be contesting their Grand Final Qualifiers against Redbank Plains and Brothers respectively. A win for either side will see them move straight through to the Grand Final while a loss will give them a second bite at the cherry next week. Here’s to four good wins this weekend and two sides booking their place in the Grand Final early.
